Keira Fox and Ellen Freed formed New Noveta in London 2012. They have exhibited and performed extensively in Europe and internationally since. Themes of their work revolve around social conformity and behaviours within controlled societal structures and its effects, displaying anxiety, hysteria and forceful task based actions in their performative behaviour, other subject matters and research, have included folklore and witchcraft, female alcoholism historically and an ongoing interest in socio political struggles on the body and mind and how this can manifest. They work within various mediums including sound recording and production, costume making and characterizations, props making and installation building as well as choreographing pieces for site specific performances.
For Parallel Vienna, keeping in mind the history of Lassallestrasse 5, the vast and faded office complex formerly hosting the Bank of Austria, they apply the dynamic of the characters in Jean Genets play “The Maids” (1947) who plot to murder their dominating employer to escape from there servitude. In this piece New Noveta create a scenario embodying a fictional clerk called Vitriola – a representation of servile despair and it´s consequences. For Vitriola New Noveta will collaborate with musician Vindicatrix AKA David Aird on a live durational sound piece and installation that will include a mixture of digitally treated dialogue and close mic´d mechanical sound. A portion of this will be broadcasted via a pirate FM signal, which will be received by a mobile speaker traveling with Vitriola through the corridors, solicitously declaring her pursuit for subversion.Make-up by Crystabel Riley.
