Sophie Dvořák was born in Vienna in 1978. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Glasgow School of Arts, Scotland. Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally and have been awarded various prizes and scholarships. Most recently, she received the State Scholarship for Fine Arts. Sophie Dvořák lives and works in Vienna.
The tectonic phenomenon of geological faulting, a tear or break in the rock—known in English as a Fault—runs through all parts of the edition as a transformation. The small-scale model topographies address the fluid state of constant change and take up the interplay between landscape and map, fact and fiction, which is a recurring theme in Dvořák's artistic exploration of cartography and spatial models.
