Huda Takriti (*1990 in Syria) works with video and installation to make hidden stories within colonial and state archives visible and open to critical inquiry. Her practice investigates how power structures shape memory—from decolonial and feminist perspectives. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the PhD in Practice program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her research focuses on the notion of archival disappearance and on the life histories of female freedom fighters from the Middle East during armed anti-colonial movements. In doing so, she examines, on the one hand, how historical narratives are constructed and produced, and on the other, the potential of subversion as a strategy to expose archival gaps and destabilise hegemonic narratives.

Her recent exhibitions include MQ Freiraum (AT), Camera Austria (AT), mumok (AT), Kunstraum Lakeside (AT), and Škuc Gallery (SI). Takriti has received the Han Nefkens Foundation – Museu Tàpies Video Art Production Grant (2025), the Kardinal König Prize (2025), the Vordemberge-Gildewart Scholarship (2022), the Kunsthalle Wien Prize (2020), and the Camargo Foundation Fellowship (2023).

oh! is a series of accidental, unintentional phone photographs that Takriti has been collecting and archiving since 2010. Printed on postcards, these images lose their incidental nature and transform into something resembling a souvenir or a moment of memory imbued with a monumental charge.
