is an Australian hybrid media artist working in the area of science, art and technology, currently residing in Vienna / Austria and Zurich / Switzerland. His work combines the highly specialised field of scientific acoustics with the visual arts incorporating Nonlinear Acoustics, robotic sculpture, Game Engine Environments and camera tracking. Donovan’s work is often inspired by his personal attachment to machines and the intangible aspects of physics we experience every day. He explores these phenomena by amplifying and modulating their effects to create new mediums and experiences. Since 1996 he has been researching focused acoustics drawing on scientific research in this area to create hybrid sound installations and performances. Donovan has collaborated widely on sound art projects since the mid 90s both with composers and scientists, the outcomes are shown internationally. His sound works use various crafted physical instruments that focus and shape sound, incorporating compositions based on the memory of machines.
In his works, Rainer Gamsjäger primarily is dealing with video and photography on structural levels. He deconstructs image content, decomposes digital images into their smallest units, in order to re-arrange them with algorithms by specially programmed software and to unveil abstract image contents. Gamsjäger mainly uses high-resolution landscape images as a source material, while recent works also includes the latest images of NASA space telescopes. His works are shown internationally in exhibitions and at film festivals. Rainer Gamsjäger studied Experimental Design at the University of Art in Linz/Austria, he lives and works in Linz.
