Reiko Yamada is a sound artist and composer from Hiroshima, Japan, currently residing in North America. Her work includes electroacoustic, chamber and orchestral music along with sound art installations and interdisciplinary collaborations. In recent years, her artistic research has centered on the aesthetic concept of imperfection in a variety of contexts, all the while maintaining a constant concern for empathy and carefully representation of human and geographical contexts in which she finds inspiration. Works by Yamada have been commissioned and exhibited by various institutions and organizations in Europe, Asia, and America. She holds a doctor of music in composition from McGill University Montreal and was a Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study of Harvard University. Currently she is the artist-in-residence at Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria.
